Katherine Valadez is an active musician and flute instructor who just recently moved back to the Phoenix area. Prior to relocating, she taught at Roberson’s Music, The Music Studio, the Rappahannock Summer Music Camp, and was band assistant for the homeschool music program in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Katie is a positive and encouraging teacher who works to expose her students to the greater classical world by keeping them informed of concerts and events as well as by organizing her own. In addition to maintaining a full teaching schedule in Virginia, she performed regularly with the Rappahannock Pops and the Piedmont Symphony. She won first place at the Flute Society of Washington’s Wallace Mann Orchestral Audition Competition in 2009 and in 2007 she attended the Brevard Music Center in Brevard, NC. Katie holds a Master of Music in Orchestral Flute Performance from McGill University in Montreal and a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance (Magna cum Laude) from Arizona State University. Her principal teachers include Timothy Hutchins (Principal of Montreal Symphony), Dr. Elizabeth Buck (former principal of Phoenix Symphony), and Brian Gordon (piccolo of Phoenix Symphony).
